Bar Of Northern Ireland Expresses Support For American Legal Profession

The Bar of Northern Ireland has joined its counterparts in England & Wales, Scotland and Ireland and more recently the profession across Europe, to lend its unqualified support to statements regarding the targeting of legal professionals by the United States government.

The statements denounce recent attacks upon, and express solidarity with, US legal professionals and the American Bar Association as they defend the foundational principles of justice, democracy and the rule of law. The statements have been co-signed by more than forty-three organisations representing more than a million lawyers across Great Britain, the island of Ireland, Europe, Australia and Canada.

Bar Council Chair Donal Lunny KC commented: “The Bar of Northern Ireland joins with practitioners across the world in expressing our concern at recent direct, specific and targeted assaults against lawyers. The profession must be permitted to perform
our professional duties in facilitating fair and equal access to justice for all without threat or intimidation. We are resolute in our support for our American colleagues and colleagues across the world facing threat and intimidation.”
