Consultation Response: Draft Programme for Government 2016-2021

News and publications

The NI Executive issued its draft Programme for Government 2016-2021 in May 2016. The framework contains 14 strategic outcomes which aim to “set the direction of travel and enable continuous improvement on the essential components of societal wellbeing”. These outcomes are supported by 42 indicators, 3 of which relate to the justice sector: reduce crime, reduce reoffending and increase the effectiveness of the justice system.

The Bar’s response focuses on these indicators and also highlights concerns that the draft PfG does not sufficiently address the major issues facing the justice sector over the course of the new mandate, such as safeguarding access to justice. Read the Bar’s full submission to the draft Programme for Government 2016-2021. The Bar also responded to the second phase of consultation on the draft PfG in December 2016, including the associated delivery plans and data identified as necessary to monitor progress against the outcomes.
