Justice Week 2020

Justice Week 2020 runs from 24-28 February 2020 and will see the Bar of Northern Ireland team up with colleagues across the UK and Ireland, including the Bar Council of England and Wales, Faculty of Advocates and the Bar of Ireland, to boost the profile of justice and the rule of law, placing them at the centre stage of public discourse with a particular focus on enhancing young people’s support and understanding of the justice system.
Justice and the rule of law are facing threats, right across the UK, from cuts to spending to attacks on the judiciary which undermine our democracy. Yet often the law can feel to many like an impenetrable world which they only get an insight into through selective news reports and tv dramatisations; in reality it touches every area of life from intimate family matters to the biggest issues in our society. At a time of widespread discussion about citizens’ rights and obligations, the role of Government and the rule of law, it’s important that we all do more to scrutinise and promote the world of law and make it easier to understand.
There will be different themes for each day throughout Justice Week:
Monday – Protecting our Freedom
Tuesday – Fighting for Rights
Wednesday – Defending Democracy
Thursday – Saving our Planet
Friday – Justice Week: The Best Bits.
